Sonoma Academy Janet Durgin Guild & Commons Building

Sonoma Academy’s Janet Durgin Guild & Commons is a 20,000 s.f., two-story building and one of Sonoma County and Elevated’s most sustainable projects. As Elevated’s first mass timber project, back in 2018, we performed mass timber erection as well as architectural carpentry that included the installation of all siding. CLT was utilized for the roof deck, one of the earliest examples of mass timber in the Bay Area. All wood-based products in the building are sustainability sourced or reclaimed from local sites. For example, the redwood paneling in the dining area was reused from an old house in Mill Valley. The CLT in the commons building extends the warmth of the trellis into the eaves of the building, providing a sense of connection to nature. One crew with seven workers completed erection and architectural carpentry with a total of 3,787 hours worked.
